FEELING HEALTHY AGAIN
Just over two years ago, after having my second child, I joined Team Howell feeling pretty unhealthy and unfit. I belonged to another gym in Winona that wasn't giving me the results I had hoped for.
Since being at Team Howell I feel the healthiest and strongest I have in years. I actually have people commenting on how strong I look. I never expected that since I just wanted to feel healthy again. Now I am able to do things I never thought possible, like push-ups and holding a plank!
Initially I joined to use a treadmill and maybe lift a dumbbell. I decided to take a BootCamp class to see how it was. I can tell you this, I never turned back after that class. Even though every class is difficult, the work pays off and I appreciate the help and support that Mike and Cassy give.
All the Team Howell members are so nice, encouraging and fun. They are people I now consider my friends. That is one of the main reasons I love going to the gym (besides the physical and mental health benefits). I have never had this experience of friendship and teamwork at any other gym in town. And I never feel bad if I cannot do something to the level of someone else. We all come in, no matter what our fitness level is, and work hard together to do our best without feeling ashamed or embarrassed.
Anyway, Team Howell is the best and besides family, is really the best part of my day!
Looking back...what would you tell yourself on day one?
Looking back, I'd tell myself that I shouldn't avoid doing any workout or lifting weights just because I don't think I can do it. Get in there and put yourself to the test. You’ll be surprised what you can accomplish.
Struggle No More
I started at Team Howell in January of 2015 because I wanted to lose 10 pounds for my son’s wedding. Even though I was already a member of a 24-hour gym, I kept slowly gaining weight and I knew I wasn’t working as hard as I should.
I wanted a class setting where someone would “make” me work out harder. Well, that is exactly what I got at Team Howell where Cassy and Mike have taught me exactly the right way to lift weights and are constantly challenging me to get better and stronger, in a safe, correct way.
I would classify myself as a stay-at-home mom/dairy farmer’s wife, which means that although I don’t have to help outside every day, some days I find myself dragging a newborn calf in a sled across a frozen cow yard, or carrying 5 gallon pails of milk. And while I could do this before Team Howell, it wasn’t easy. But now, I can do these things without struggling!
Well, I lost the 10 pounds for the wedding, plus 10 more, but I have gained so much! The people at Team Howell make you feel welcome and help push you and empower you! I never thought I could be capable of lifting the weight that I am lifting. I have muscles now and you can see them!
It’s so amazing to me that after one year that is even possible! When I started I thought, I’ll stick it out until the wedding, but Team Howell is such a part of my life now that I cannot give it up and look forward to where they will take me in the future!
Best Shape of My Life

"If I was looking back almost six years ago, on day one, knowing what I know now, I would tell myself: be prepared to be amazed! I would tell my younger self that I could trust my instincts, that this gym will become a very special place for me, a place where I will be quietly but firmly encouraged to dig deeper, go farther than I think I can, to focus on good form, to get results I never thought I was capable of, to connect mind and body for positive outcomes.

DRIVE TO DO BETTER
"I stopped working out for a while and I didn’t like the way I felt. Coming to Team Howell gave me the drive to do better and feel better. I started with wanting to lose a couple of pounds, but after coming here and doing strength training I’ve gained muscle - the 'good weight.' If you get yourself here each and everyday and do your best, Cassy and Mike will be there to help you reach your goals."
Looking back…what would you tell yourself on day one?
"This is gonna be hard. You’re not going to be able to do everything when you start, and that’s okay. You wanna build to where you want to be. The first day you’re not going to be able to do 100 chin ups, it’s not gonna happen. You start with one, then you get to two, then three and eventually you get to 100."
